Do you feel the new on street parking restrictions are excessive after 6pm and on Sundays?
Do they put you off having an early evening dinner, or a lazy day in the city centre on a Sunday?
If so, please sign our petition below.
We are calling for IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION of these restrictions
while a large scale parking survey is being carried out.
Many of your favourite shops, restaurants and leisure venues are seeing a significant loss in trade which is very worrying and not sustainable.
We need your help to show the council that
this is very damaging to Nottingham City Centre.
We have already lost two independent shops in the last month alone, who cited that the parking situation was a contributing factor, another is now closing down. Action needs to be taken as a matter of urgency, as for some of those traders, waiting 6 months for the recommendations of the survey for any changes to happen will just be too late.
The Council recently announced charges to the parking which have been branded as a u-turn or their original move. While it is good that some charges have been lowered, it is not really a u-turn. The £1 lower charge after 6pm and on Sundays is only for the duration of the maximum stay.
The issue of the restrictive maximum stays still stand and for some areas this is just one hour, which is a major deterrent for people coming into these areas, such as Hockley or Derby Road. The Council have spoken about piloting a scheme whereby extra stay permits are issued by venues in that area directly to customers.
This sounds good on paper, yet the reality is that you will have to park your car, go get a ticket from the meter, put ticket in car, go to venue, get your extra hour permit, then go back to the car to put this with your ticket, thus wasting 15-20 mins of your parking time, if you can't park outside of where you are going to. We, the traders, feel that this is an over complicated idea, which will just confuse the general public and cause people to feel hassled. If people feel that parking is a tedious ordeal, then they just simply won't bother.
Our position still stands, we are calling for an immediate suspension of the extended charges, pending the outcome of the survey being carried out by the Retail & Leisure BID partnerships.
