Sweat Makes The Green Grass Grow

Soccer is a Universal language. It brings genders and different ethnicity together. Although there are people who do not know the English language, there is a universal language seen throughout the court: the Ball. Lack of economics have prevented individuals from all neighborhoods from mastering the universal language of soccer. Soccer is the bridge for a better quality life between local residents of diversified communities and international cultures.

Currently, individuals from different genders, ages and ethnicities come together to play the beautiful game of soccer at Las Animas Park. Although there might be parks throughout the cities there are no fields such as though with lights leaving the individuals with no other choice, but to play on the Tennis Courts or High School parking lots. Police officers are often seen at the Tennis Court to remind the individuals to leave, although the officers DO NOT want them to leave, but rather have the kids and adults stay and engaged in Physical Activity which results in lower crimes and lower obesity rate.

Studies from the Santa Clara Public Health illustrates Gilroy having a 66% obesity rate whereas the Santa Clara County has a 55% obesity rate and the U.S national obesity overall rate has a 63% making Gilroy 3% higher than the national average.

Imagine what a facility such as a Futsal and soccer field can do to decrease the problems. In Gilroy there are only 3 facilities which have lights, but 2 out of the 3 are high schools which are only used by the school’s sports team. The other facility is the Gilroy Sportsplex which is supposed to be for soccer and baseball, but there is no space to play soccer hence baseball team practices or play games at night making it impossible for kids and adults to play soccer without getting hit with a baseball. The only solution to this is to build Futsal Fields with lights so that local residents can feel safe and enjoy the beautiful game of soccer within their community.

I am writing this Petition in hopes for the City of Gilroy to invest and build Futsal Fields with lights so that local residents can engaged in Physical Activity without Law Enforcement asking residents to leave the Tennis Court or High School Parking Lots.
