Our aim is get rid of or considerably reduce the usage of non-biodegradable packaging - specifically in takeaways and ultimately reduce the amount of plastic entering our oceans. 70 million takeaways are made in the UK every week and just 32% of these are packaged with biodegradable packaging. This means that the 68% left is put into our already impure oceans. Non biodegradable packaging will simply break down into tiny microplastics which, once they have entered an animal's blood can become deadly. Recent American studies have shown that 100% of sea turtles tested (all species) carry microplastics in their blood. This can reduce their life span and also affect their offspring. If we eat fish that carry micro plastics, then we will carry them too, increasing the chance of cancer.
