What good are Football Helmets? You can't hit with them, you can't grab them, they limiti visibility, and most importantly they are used as weapons on the football field. There's a huge misconception that head injuries are from big hits however, experts will argue that the smaller repetative shots in practice can add up to cause just as much damage. Just like a boxer absorbs serveral jabs in a fight, football players take these jabs in every practice. So why is it that football players can have this type of contact all week and boxers just once or twice a year? Our case study involved the TownBeef Fooball League started in 2006. Their game is 7 on 7 full contact but without pads. They don't have special teams and the QB starts with the ball in hand. How good can the hits be without pads? Check the video below. The field of play is the standard 100 yards but the width is narrowed to just 37 yards. Leg injuries are as common as in any other football game, even flag. Twisted ankles a break here and there is normal in any type off football at any level. The big question at hand is how many concusions and how many head inuries do we have and the answer is supprisingly low. You'll get a bloody nose here and there but concusions are very miniumal less then 2 or 3 a year. How? Why? Guys aren't willing to throw their head in there, they actually have to make form tackles the correct way. Nobody has a false sense of security wearing armor on their head. With a child on the way and possibly a future football player I can say for myself and everyone that is involved in the TownBeef Football league that we'd feel safer with our children playing this style of football. Once the direct connection between helmets and brain damage is proven this will be the only survival for America's favorite sport. If it's not safe for the NFL how can it be safe for our youth.
