Smt. Sonia Gandhi, We are writing to you in the hope that you will prevail over those sycophants in your own party that seem to be hell bent on adding Shri. Rajiv Gandhi or Smt. Indira Gandhi's name to all sorts of government programs, buildings and sites. Recently, Shri. T. Subba Rami Reddy, Member of Parliament proposed to Govt. of Andhra Pradesh that he would donate some money to renovate an Auditorium in Hyderabad called "Telugu Lalita Kalaa Toranam" (loosely translates to 'Telugu Fine Arts Centre') and in return the Government must rechristen the Auditorium as "Rajeev Gandhi Lalita Kalaa Toranam" According to news reports, Govt of A.P issued orders to change the name. While we have lot of respect for Shri Rajiv Gandhi and his contributions to making India a better place, we do not feel it is appropriate for this auditorium to bear his name. The current name is apt and it represents the strong culture of fine arts in this part of the country. I'm offended that the name is being changed and I believe that many people will not have a favorable opinion about Shri. Rajiv Gandhi because of this change.

We request you to use your influence to retract government orders and send a strong message that you do not entertain such acts of sheer sycophancy.

sincerely,

(undersigned)

The momentum behind this effort has grown quiet but firm. Seeing this many people reject the erasure of our cultural identity reminds me why this feels like a necessary fight despite the exhaustion of keeping it going.

Keep the name as is. Stop renaming everything after the same family it is honestly getting ridiculous at this point.
