The Cheshire Community Pool is a tremendous community resource. It provides everyone opportunities for improved health, to develop life skills, and has recreational value. Health benefits public pools provide include cardiovascular fitness, diabetes prevention, arthritis relief and weight regulation. Public pools also provide social outlets for people of all socioeconomic levels. Pools are also used for educational purposes; swimming lessons and lifeguard training are two examples. Pools serve the needs of many people who suffer from medical conditions or injuries. Swimming pools offer a means of social interaction, relaxation and stress relief. They give an opportunity to participate in aerobic, yet low-impact exercise. Swimming pools also increase safety in the community. Swimming is not just exercise; it is a life-skill. Sadly, the only alternative for swimmers when public pools close is a potentially expensive membership at a private pool or gym, or open-water swimming when the weather and location permits. It is time we did right by the community. It is time for a permanent building for the Cheshire Community Pool Read more: Why Swimming Pools Are Good for the Community | eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/about_6641360_swimming-pools-good-community.html#ixzz2KtpvgRik

Updates

March 20, 2013

I was just at the pool watching the water go still and it really hit me how much we lose when the seasonal gate locks shut. I have been fielding so many emails from folks who rely on these laps for their physical therapy and honestly the stories people are sharing about their health make me feel like we are definitely on the right path here.

I logged on this morning and just stared at the screen because I really did not think this many people cared about having a roof over our heads at the pool. It feels like the tide is finally turning and honestly I keep thinking about how much easier it will be to get winter laps in once we actually get this enclosure built.

The summers are way too short and we pay enough in taxes already. Just get it done so we can use it year round.
