The goal of this petition is to make changes to strike's current structure and process in order to ensure that all individuals involved (crew, performers, & staff) feel safe, organized, respected, and part of a team building experience. This petition is acknowledging that the current structure and process has immense flaws in organization, and making people feel safe, respected and part of a team. This petition suggests that assignments and duties for strike should be assigned to each performer/crew member prior to the strike of the show. Each individual should be placed into a group with specific tasks that align with their abilities and knowledge. Once the group has completed their tasks, performers/crew members are free to leave. This petition also suggests that performers/crew members are given a 30 min-45 min window of time after the show to visit with family, friends, and loved ones who came to see the show, as well as time to prepare themselves for the strike duties ahead. This petition outlaws loading in the next show.
DISCLAIMER: the intention of this petition is NOT to call out any person or group for their lack of hard-work (the backstage crew is respected and recognized for their long hours of labor).
The objective of this petition IS to catalyze ACTION in order to alter and/or implement certain arrangements to the striking process which will ensure an equal, safe, and efficiently-structured “Strike” for all people involved (performers & crew members).

The feedback I have received from fellow performers and crew members confirms that these organizational challenges are widely felt across the department. I am currently preparing a formal proposal to outline how these specific adjustments to the strike process could improve efficiency and safety for everyone involved.

Love the shows. Our family travels all over the United States to come see them over a very short period. Would love to spend time after with all of the performers!
The current setup is honestly just super chaotic. Nobody knows what they are supposed to be doing and then we end up stuck there for hours. Just want a plan!!
My parents drove 6 hours to see me and I barely got to talk to them for 2 mins before being dragged into strike. Please let us have a little time to breathe.
It would be way more efficient if we had assigned groups. Total waste of time standing around waiting for instructions. Let us get it done so we can go home.
THIS. Trying to do complex tasks I have zero training for while exhausted after a show is a recipe for injury. Safety should come first, always.

I think it's important that there are clear guidelines and regulations in regards to any task required of the SoTD performers. This goes for all disciplines. I hope to see positive change and more defined roles as opposed to asking inexperienced students to perform work they aren't trained to do or aren't required as part of their courses or performances.
