Trent Borland Deserves Medicaid!
As of November 1, 2013, Trent Borland will no longer be eligible for Medicaid. Trent, a 41 year old husband and father of 2 girls, was paralyzed after doctors attempted to remove a malignant tumor from his spinal cord last August. He is now a complete Quadriplegic with no movement below his shoulders. He breathes with the assistance of a diaphragm pacer that was surgically installed into his diaphragm in order to free him from a ventilator. Trent requires care 24/7 care. Until now he was awarded caregivers for 30 hours per week from Medicaid to assist his wife, Stephanie, in caring for him. He must be transferred to his chair in the morning using a lift, he has assisted bowel care, shower, teeth brushing, then is transferred again to be dressed, transferred again to be fed and then is taken to various doctor, radiation, therapy appointments, fed again, transferred again to bed and then is turned at 3 a.m. to prevent pressure ulcers. This care leaves little time for Stephanie, to care for her 2 daughters. That is why caregivers are crucial to Trent's day. Medicaid, however, is taking that away from Trent. Trent worked doing GPS mapping for Jim Kidwell Construction for several years. He's always been a productive member of society and has paid into the system that is now Failing him in his time of need. He took so much pride in his work and being able to provide for his family. He has lost so much. Isn't a case like Trent's the whole reason for having a program like Medicaid. To help those in need? To stand by our fellow man and help him pick up the pieces when he's been broken? PLEASE sign, share, contact your state representatives, pray and stand up for my brother who can't.
