From 1987 to 1990, Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka were involved in over a dozen rapings, three killings, and are on suspicion for eight other rapings and killings in the Toronto area. Karla Homolka was given free University education in prison and was released in 2005. Bernardo is eligible for release next year. On July 30th, 2008, Vince Li stabbed Tim McLean multiple times on a Greyhound bus before proceeding to behead him and eat his flesh. Vince Li's case has been kept closed off from the public because Manitoba's Criminal Code review board deems it a "violation" of his rights. On April 8th, 2009, 8 year old Tori Stafford went missing. She was kidnapped, raped, and murdered by two suspects. The suspects will spend little over a decade in jail IF found guilty. If this is Canada's version of justice, it is a brutal and dark version. What kind of society affords the worst people more rights than the victims Crime rates may be going down, but crime rates in Canada are still no where near as low as they were in 1960 - when Canada still had capital punishment. We must punish the most brutal of serial killers, child rapists, and terrorists. This is how we can ensure true justice, not free University education while law-abiding students are living in poverty. This is true compensation, not million dollar fitness centres being built in prisons. If you believe that Canada's justice system needs a major overhaul, then sign this petition!
