The 2016-17 school schedule was changed to longer days and longer breaks in an effort to save money, but it's been a burden on our families and students. School doesn't let out until 4:40 for many elementary schools, which means that many kids don't get off the bus until 5:30. This leaves little time for after-school activities. And by the time families eat dinner and get homework done, this doesn't allow any time for unwinding and family time. Additionally, the extra time off during the summer, winter break, and spring break means more time for a learning lag -- which not only affects our kids' learning, but it also means our teachers have to spend time reteaching lessons that were taught months earlier. We would like the schedule to return to the 2015-16 schedule.
