Have you, your spouse, or your child been woken up by loud train horns over the past month? After a long day of work, have you come home only to be driven almost crazy by the sound of trains cutting through any soundproofing in your home? If so, this petition is for you. Let’s work together to bring quiet back to our neighborhoods, one signature at a time.

According to the Provo City Government’s Facebook page, Lehi's railroad crossings aren’t meeting federal safety standards, which is why trains are required to sound their horns at every FrontRunner crossing from Provo to Salt Lake City. Other cities like Provo, American Fork, South Jordan, and Murray are in compliance according to each of their city’s Facebook pages. Provo even became compliant back in July of this year, which brings up the question of why Lehi city didn’t make the same fixes to their crossings before this became the bigger problem it is now. If only a few crossings in Lehi are out of compliance, why should the rest of Utah County and Salt Lake County have to suffer with less sleep and constant noise?

Provo City estimates the quiet zones won’t return until early 2025. That’s another 2-3 months of noisy nights and disrupted homes.

Join me in petitioning to bring back the quiet zones in the cities that already meet the safety standards. Our sleep deprived children shouldn’t have to pay the consequences for a problem that isn’t even ours. We can have both safe railroad crossings and the quiet our families deserve.

While we wait for the signatures to comes through, feel free to email rrswevinquiries@dot.gov with your complaints. They’re the ones who would deal with this kind of change
