Fighting for a Choice: Tell the Virginia GOP to extend the 2012 Primary Filing Period
With nearly 10 weeks until the Virginia Presidential Primary, all but two candidates in the race for the White House failed to make the ballot. Now, Virginians are left with a choice between Mitt Romney and Ron Paul. Many in the state, who supported one of the other five viable candidates for president, feel disenfranchised by this decision of the Republican Party of Virginia to disqualify Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Rick Perry, and Rick Santorum from the ballot. Please sign this petition asking the Virginia GOP to push back the filing deadline until sometime after the New Hampshire primary, so that candidates may actually have the time to organize and get on the ballot, allowing voters to have a choice. In reality, with so many candidates failing to meet the requirements of the VA GOP, the fault lies with the party, not with the people. Virginians should not be punished simply because the requirements to appear on the ballot were too difficult to attain in such a short period of time. This is not about politics, this is about making sure that the people of Virginia have ample opportunity to have their voices heard in deciding who the next President of the United States will be. No other state is having this issue, and no other group of people are being as disenfranchised as Virginians. It's time to stand up and have our voices heard. Please sign this petition, and help us fight for a Choice.
