Petition Summary: Penn DOT and Kinsley Construction of York, PA are to close State Route 11 between the river bridge and Route 147 intersection, in Northumberland Borough/ Point Township. This is a minimum 3-week roadway-resurfacing project planned to begin June 2nd, 2009. Previous road closures at this same location have caused hours of daily traffic delays in Northumberland Borough, Point Township, Sunbury and other surrounding communities. A road closure at this location will also negatively affect access to little league ball fields, boat access to the river, and most importantly businesses in Northumberland Borough, Point Township, Sunbury, Selinsgrove, Shamokin Dam, and other surrounding areas due to discouraged motorists. Action Petitioned for: We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders (PA Rep Merle H. Phillips, Northumberland Borough Council, and Sunbury City Council) to contact Penn Dot and Kinsley Construction and demand that one direction of traffic remains open during all phases of this construction.

I really never expected this many people to grab their keyboards and back this road access thing because honestly I was just angry about my commute and now seeing this momentum is actually pretty wild. It feels like we are finally being seen by the people who make these decisions even if they have been ignoring us for years so thanks for sticking with me while I figure out how to get this in front of the local council.

Total nightmare for businesses in the area. nobody wants to drive through the construction mess so they just stay home. keep one lane open!

3 weeks is way way too long to shut that down. anyone who drives that route knows it turns into a parking lot the second they close one lane. keep it moving.

Ridiculous. my kids have ball games all through june and this is going to make getting there impossible. fix the road but keep the traffic moving.
