Cuts to Victims Compensation - It just isn't right
We the undersigned are concerned about recent changes to the NSW victim’s compensation scheme including: • Reduction in compensation payable to victims of long standing abuse perpetrated by one or more offenders; • Restricting the ability for victims of childhood sexual assault to lodge claims if they have already received compensation for a different crime; • Cutting legal fees payable which will have the impact of reducing the number of solicitors willing to act in these claims. We strongly urge you to ensure that reform meets the needs of all victims of crime in NSW. We call on the NSW Government, opposition and all other parties to commit to: 1. Extensive consultation with key stakeholders. 2. Parliamentary review of the recent changes to the NSW victim’s compensation scheme. We ask all parties in NSW to take the pledge here: http://victimscompensation.wordpress.com/party-pledges/ This petition will also be sent to the Attorney General, Shadow Attorney General and members of other parties in NSW Parliament for their response.
