Vote NO to the UIL take over of TASO
Representative or Senator, I am an official in the great state of Texas. I have worked varsity and sub-varsity games under TASO for the past years. Officiating Texas High School sports is a passion of mine. I am writing you concerning the UIL's recent decision to require all sports officials to register with the UIL in order to officiate high school varsity contests. This will in effect dissolve the Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO). TASO and its predecessor, the Southwest Officials Association (SOA) have had officials' interest and those of the student athlete at heart. TASO was established to work with the UIL and the schools to provided officials for their contest. With TASO out of the picture the UIL will stand alone as the sole voice and decision maker for all concerned. Officials will no longer have a voice. TASO has provided training and scheduling of officials at no cost to the UIL (a state funded organization). The UIL has stated they have no desire to deal with the sub-varsity level of officiating. To that statement; most TASO chapters have the policy that if schools do not use their officials for varsity games, they will not cover their sub-varsity games. That brings the question, what happens to sub-varsity contests I thank you for your time in reviewing this. I hope you'll voice your opinion opposing this to all parties concerned, especially The Commissioner of Education of the State of Texas - Mr. Robert Scott. Sincerely, **digitally signed via ipetitions.com a Texas High School Official and proud member of TASO
