The school board finally folded and scrapped that discriminatory dress code policy. They realized they could not keep penalizing students based on their height while ignoring the blatant unfairness of the rules. Stay vigilant because we are watching to ensure they implement these changes exactly as promised.

Final supporters
Our goal is to change the dress code to be more inclusive. The current dress code states that any shorts/skirts/dresses/etc more than an index card (5 inches) above the knee are out of dress code. This needs to be changed because it isn't inclusive to people with longer legs. Shorter people can be in dress code with wearing the exact same shorts as a taller person, while the taller person's education would be halted from having to take time out of class to call home to get clothing that's in the dress code. We seek to adapt a similar dress code of Roanoke City Public Schools. Their dress code clearly states clothing that exposes cleavage, private parts, the mid drift, or undergarments are prohibited. They do not mention any guidelines for shorts, and students are allowed to wear shorts of any length. This would include taller people and allow students of Botetourt County to wear shorts when it's warm outside. This applies to Lord Botetourt, James River, Read Mountain, and Central Academy. UPDATE: There is a school board meeting at 7:00 pm on Thursday September 13th. Please try to attend because it will help our cause exponentially. Also parents please write letters to your individual school board members to help increase support for the cause.

We just hit 100 signatures and the school board can no longer ignore this blatant inequity. These arbitrary rules are punishing students for their height while the district pretends this is about professionalism.

I strongly believe we need to change dress code at Lord Botetourt because the administration constantly makes girls miss class and potentially get ISS if their parents can’t bring them clothes in under 15 minutes
it’s not fair to a lot of students that don’t get dress coded and the ones who always do and they can be wearing the sameness thing.
I think it is absolutely ridiculous that my daughter got pulled out of class because she was wearing athletic shorts. I did not think they looked inappropriate at all, and I hope this gets fixed.
The botetourt county dress code is ridiculous, it’s like I’m sorry that girls are y’all and it’s hard to find things that fit and dresses are fine bc shorts are shorter than dresses and they should do shorts like if your fingers go past the end then the shorts aren’t dress code but if not they are the dress code is ridiculous sorry can’t help my height
The tall people thing is so true! I haven’t been able to wear shorts, dresses, or skirts without being dress coded or given judgemental looks.
While I will sign this a lot of the outrage about the dress code is from women. Yes I understand it mostly affects them, and yes it needs to be changed because it allows uncomfortablility. But also I wouldn’t be surprised if some girls who want this to be changed are using it as an excuse to show off their body, and bs like that. I think it does need to change, but don’t take advantage of it. Now go ahead and grill me because “you’re a guy you wouldn’t understand” but I get it. Now I would go into detail about how it is fair in some sense but it is definitely too aggressive and needs changing

I am sixteen years old and i’m 5’10”. My legs are very long and i can never wear shorts when it’s hot, and i was even dress coded for wearing shorts over leggings. the dress code makes me feel humiliated and objectified.
