Tucson City Violates Food Truck Right To Park
PLANNING AND ZONING FORCES THE PIT TO CLOSE
The City of Tucson has rejected The Pit's site plan, forcing us to close and not reopen until we have an approved development package. A site plan and certificate of occupancy is not acceptable. Using a vacant parking lot and undeveloped land for food truck parking and picnic tables is deemed an unacceptable change of use. A development plan is too costly for us to submit at this time. Currently Food Trucks are required to stay 100 ft apart, cannot access utilities, and must leave everyday. The cost of this is egregious. Tucson zoning is forcing seven full time food trucks to find another place to work, and taking a popular place away from East Tucson. No safety issues, no food borne illness issues, and no crime issues have been found. As current code stands, within the city limits of Tucson, there can be no fulltime food truck parks.
