Make Pet Chickens Legal in Greendale, WI
As a citizen of Greendale I believe we should be able to have chickens. Greendale calls itself a "Garden Community" and I think chickens are a big part of the garden circle. They eat all the pests in your garden like ants and beetles to make sure that your plants are healthy. Their poop is also a very good fertilizer that would keep your garden healthier and your plants growing.
Of course we would not be looking to butcher them, instead, we would be looking to have them as pets. I can’t have a pet with fur because of my moms allergies so chickens are a great option for our family and maybe others. Not to mention we could still get eggs without a noisy rooster. Hens aren’t very loud either, for sure not louder than your dog barking or the birds chirping outside. Chickens don’t have teeth either so they wouldn’t be able bite you or give you rabies.
Chickens are also very interesting and funny to watch. It would be a great learning experience for you and a great family pet. Many urban areas already allow backyard chickens including Wauwatosa, Bayview, Milwaukee, Cudahy, Fox Point, Mequon, River Hills, and many more. This summer would also be the perfect time for Greendale to change the ordinances to let people have pet chickens.
