We, residents of Amberly, Carolina Preserve,
Weldon Ridge, Cary Park, et al. oppose the proposed Cardinal Charter Academy to
be located at Yates Store and New Hope Church Roads. This school anticipates
enrolling 2000 students who will not be served by public transportation
resulting in traffic congestion and higher risk of traffic accidents in this
area. Additionally, charter schools siphon taxpayer funds from public
education leaving our traditional public schools to cope with reduced funding for their children’s public education. The
unacceptable result is public school students don’t have equal educational
opportunities and resources than charter school students. For these reasons we
strongly oppose rezoning to allow Cardinal Charter Academy to locate and open
at Yates Store and New Hope Church Roads.
I cannot support the rezoning for a 2000-person school located off a dead-end road, surrounded and accessed only by 2- lane neighborhood roads. This is not feasible and would disrupt the quality of the surrounding neighborhoods and is not meeting an unmet need at this time.
