On February 28, 2018, the SD#23 Board of Trustees passed a motion to reconfigure schools in West Kelowna effective September 2018. Parents were first informed of this motion on February 1, 2018, just 28 days before the motion was passed on a 5-2 vote.

SD#23's Policy and Procedures manual states that the Superintendent must present any school closures or consolidation to the Board of Trustees in November, to be followed by "a process of discussion and consultation with parents, staff and the community" no later than January. The policy also states that "consultation will be meaningful, and fair consideration will be given to all public input prior to the Board making its final decision".

Not only have the prescribed timelines been violated, but there was no consultation or discussion with the community. Both the Board Chair and the Superintendent acknowledged at the February 28th meeting that the School District's standard policies and practices were not adhered to in this case.

We are asking the SD#23 Board of Trustees to set aside their decision to reconfigure West Kelowna schools in September 2018 so that they can follow the policies by which they are bound. Please show your support by signing this petition so we can speak to the Board of Trustees with one voice.

In addition, please write to the Board of Trustees directly to let them know your thoughts on this decision. They won't change their mind if they don't hear from us!
