Childhood cancer is devastating, it robs the lives of children and shatters families. Did you know?
- Only 4% of federal government cancer research funding goes to study pediatric cancer research.
- More than 190 children are diagnosed with cancer each year in Alabama.
- Over 500 children undergo cancer treatments in Alabama each year.
- 84 percent of children diagnosed with cancer will be cured of their illness, compared to less than 50% just two decades ago.
- Children's of Alabama, in Birmingham, is the one children’s oncology resource for our state and serves 90% of Alabama children with cancer.
The University of Alabama, Birmingham works with the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer to secure critical research dollars from NIH and related health initiatives, which provide millions of dollars of medical research and talented oncology medical professionals to our state.
By signing my name, I am demanding that our government officials, on the local, state, and federal level increase their efforts to put an end to childhood cancer. By supporting legislation such as HR 820 (STAR ACT) to increase funding for childhood cancer research.
