WE WANT FINANCIAL AID
Dear SDCC Chancellor Constance M. Carroll, PH.D.:
This
petition is written in protest of Dr. Anthony Beebe, President of
Continuing Education signing a measure to end the SDCE Financial Aid
Program.
This decision was made behind
closed doors, without notice to the San Diego Communities whom it
serves.
As we understand, the decision was made because a particular welding
teacher no longer cared to fill out the progress reports associated with
the program, despite the fact of Financial Aid working to put into
place an electronic system that will simplify this process, with respect
to the teachers' time involved.
We feel
this decision was made with apathy towards the people whose lives it
will affect, and we strongly urge that you cease the termination process
of this indispensable program so vital to our communities. Instead, we
ask that you act with consideration to all parties involved.
Many people’s lives will be affected dramatically, further
devastating a recovery process for persons who may have lost a home and or job
in today’s volatile economy. Taking this action will be contributory in further
displacing and alienating people who require this funding assistance to reclaim
their lives through the process of learning new skills that are vital to
employment in today’s job market, while allowing them to still feed and clothe
their children and themselves. We urge you to reconsider this decision, as
these funds are crucial to the recovery and restructuring of many people’s
lives. It is for this reason we the students want to keep Financial Aid, and we
protest the teacher’s decision to eliminate possible funding for people for
whom Financial Aid may be crucial to their lives.
We request that the
teachers and facilitators of Financial Aid to look for solutions that
will integrate an electronic, streamlined means of processing reports
that will simplify the process, with respect to teacher’s time and
effort.
This decision will impact working families of San Diego’s communities
for years to come, and we strongly urge that you cease the termination
process of this indispensable program so vital to San Diego Continuing
Education students at this volatile time in our changing economy.
We strongly urge you to reconsider this decision, and the effects this it will have on the future of San Diego’s working families. As the San Diego community of students whom the San Diego Continuing Education Centers proudly serve, our message is simply: WE WANT OUR FINANCIAL AID!
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
