A Global Anti-Hate Speech Petition on Behalf of Professor Yahya R. Kamalipour
We, the undersigned, have recently become aware of a vicious attack on the integrity and reputation of our friend and colleague Professor Yahya Kamalipour of Purdue University Calumet.
As those who have worked and known him for several years or over a decade, we are stunned by the baseless accusations made against him. We are particularly outraged that of all people, Professor Kamalipour – a person whom we know to be an advocate for free expression, global understanding through communications and tolerance across countries and religions – has been subjected to such an assault. Yahya Kamalipour is a naturalized and law-abiding citizen of the United States who has spent most of his life in his adopted country. He is an active promoter of peace, harmony and coexistence. His insights and views are cited in media across the world, and his collaborations with institutions of higher education span the entire globe.
We have absolutely no doubt that the accusations made against him are completely false and contradict his commendable professional initiatives as well as the views he has conveyed in his scholarly publications. Indeed, Professor Kamalipour has been a committed member of the academy, has served as a global ambassador for Purdue, and has tirelessly worked toward enhancing intercultural, international, and inter-institutional collaboration across the world. His numerous accomplishments and contributions to mass and global communication disciplines underscore his consistent goal of building cultural understanding, contributing to global peace and harmony, and working toward the common good.
Therefore, we respectfully request the Purdue University administration, particularly on the Hammond campus, to take appropriate steps toward restoring the personal integrity and well-earned positive global reputation of Professor Kamalipour.
