I need your signature on this petition with the understanding that you are in favor of a Greenmarket in Parkchester. As a resident of Parkchester for over eighteen years, I have advocated for change in the community. I had the pleasure to work as a Field Deputy Organizer for the Barack Obama campaign- Harlem4 Obama 2007-2009. I was a Community Organizer during Bill Thompson campaign for The Mayor of New York City 2007-2009. I was a Judicial Delegate and Community Organizer for Luis Sepulveda campaign for New York State Assembly and Re-Elect New York State Senator Rev. Ruben Diaz, Sr. 2010. A former Board Member of Bethex Federal Credit Union, I worked with community groups on financial management education. I am a member and volunteer for the Democratic National Convention, Rev Al Sharpton National Action Network, Working Family Party, and National Council of Negro Women, Inc. Presently, I have hosted, attended and volunteer events with Organizing for America, Greater NYC for Change, Change.org, Democracy for NYC., Institute of the Black World and Coordinator for the Board of Election. I want to acknowledge the second principle of Kwanzaa UJIMA collective work and responsibility that sparked me to organize Creating Unity in the Community, which held Parkchester’s First Annual Kwanzaa Celebration. I submitted a Greenmarket Location Request Form August 04, 2010, and met with Cathy Chambers on September 2, 2010 to discuss why Parkchester must have a greenmarket? On March 11, 2011, Parkchester was approved to start a Greenmarket at Virginia Park located on the corner of Westchester Ave. and White Plains Road. Bronx, NY Greenmarket's farmers and fishers come from broad section of the Northeast, including parts of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and New England, providing New Yorkers with a bountiful and astoundingly diverse array of fresh foods. Listed are examples of goods and produce the Greenmarket can provide Parkchester and surrounding neighborhoods? Farmers are certified organic and biodynamic, produce, meat, dairy, baked goods, and lacto-fermented products. Grass-fed lamb, sheep, goat, pork, meats, free-range poultry and pasture-raised poultry, heritage breed ducks, rabbit, venison, pheasant, goose, turkey, buffalo, steak, sausage, and Angus beef. Wild-caught fish, shellfish, smoked farm-raised trout, wild-caught fish, and seafood. Goat's milk cheeses, aged raw cow's milk cheeses, sheep cheese, cheddar cheese, yogurt, meat butter, ice cream, eggs, ostrich and emu eggs. Kosher beef and chicken, Mexican, and Korean specialty produce, like kim chi, varieties of vegetables, squash, pickled vegetables, pestos, mushrooms, heirloom tomatoes, hydroponics tomatoes, wheatgrass, sprouts, peppers, organic lettuces, and greens. Fruits wines, strawberries, greenhouse grown raspberries, blueberries, orchard fruit, berries, certified organic grapes, pears, apples, cider, sparking apple ciders, and grape juice. Herbs, farm-baked breads, wood-fired breads, multi-ethnic artisan breads, tortillas, hand-rolled hard pretzels and pastries. Jams, preserves, maple syrup, chutneys, candy, honey, sorghum syrup, and herbal teas. Orchid, fern plants, cactus, perennials, succulent plants, flowers, soap, and salves. Organic dry beans, grains and flour, and garlic.
